“The Goliath scarab beetle (Goliathus goliatus) is an insect found right across central Africa, from the Atlantic coast to East Africa: Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Congo, DR Congo, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. It seems that this large beetle has always been an extremely rare animal.
It is the largest beetle in Africa, and males reach impressive sizes that can exceed 10 cm. They live in forest zones, where they can be found in a lethargic state in the cool hours of the morning. Once they are warmed by the sun’s rays they become active again and will fly away at the slightest alarm.”
