Gorgon Head, former Midland Bank, Southampton

Gorgon head keystone adorning the former Midland Bank, 165–168 High Street, Southampton, Hampshire. The building was built in 1900 by architect Thomas Bostock Whinney in a Neo-Baroque style. The gorgon is one of several neoclassical grotesque heads set on the keystones of the bank’s rusticated round-headed arches. The bank is now a Grade II Listed Building and recently converted into a restaurant.
