This national cultural monument was built in 1858 on a hill above the settlement of Gornje Jesenje, on the site of the former chapel of St. John the Baptist.
The church belongs to the earlier period of historicism in the sacral architecture of Hrvatsko Zagorje. It is a harmonious example of neo-style architecture with dominant elements of neo-Romanesque.
The façade is smooth, painted white, and is distinguished by the only plastic elements of the architecture - the elegant bifore arch cladding.
The main altar of St. John the Baptist dates back to the second half of the 19th century. The pulpit was built in the 19th century, and on top of it is a statue of God the Father from the 18th century. The organ, three confessionals, the sacristy closet and the benches belong to the second half of the 19th century.
The floor of the church is paved with rustic stone slabs. The paintings on the main and side altars belong to the art vocabulary of the second half of the 19th century.
