Grand Canyon Petroglyph Shaman Seat - Arizona3D Model
This large boulder is known as the “Shaman Seat” abd features many Native American Ancestral Puebloan petroglyphs on it. Seen on the north side of the Colorado River near Tanner Rapid. There is a trail leading by it up to a lookout ruin atop a bluff.
The two spirals near the middle appear aligned with the summer solstice sunrise and sunset, where shadows are cast on the middle of the spirals. Spirals in southwestern archaeology are said to represent a journey—and in particular that of the sun throughout the year—as such spirals have documented alignment as summer and winter solstice markers throughout the Southwest.
Additional solstice spirals may be seen upstream at South Canyon and just downstream from here above Unkar.
