More model informationThis gneiss consists of K-feldspar and quartz. Rare scattered specks of magnetite and other dark minerals can be seen at high magnification. Gneissic banding is only poorly developed. The sample is taken from Rowan, North Carolina, USA (near Salisbury), and it is 9.5 cm across.
