This is a model I made at uni. It is a concept that represents a symbol for healing for the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples that have lost connections to their country from past transgressions to their heritage and ancestors. The Sea eagle is an important animal to the Gubbi Gubbi peoples, representing freedom, power, and leadership. It is represented here to empower their voicless culture as it strengthens and frees their cultures from the encapsulating conformities , Uluru in the centre of the piece with a man emerging chained, symbolising the constricted culture, yet being pulled out of it. The towering cylinders are the 8 states and districts that surround it. These are represented as didgerrydoo’s to enforce the materials of the original owners of the land that have helped construct Australias society, this message is further encapsulated by the subtle representation of the Aboriginal Flag beneath the piece being inset by the weight of history and modern societies willingness to forget.
