The portal gun’s world model from Portal 1 and Portal 2 are both extremely low-resolution and are unsuitable for close-up inspection, yet many animations use them anyway. Additionally, many community-made models take too many creative liberties and don’t remain true to the original. So here’s my rendition of the portal gun. With various elements taken directly from the in-game viewmodel, my goal was to make keep it as true to the original while allowing it to hold up in close-ups.
Note: the glass piece in the center is impossible to properly represent with standard PBR materials. As such, you will need to play around with it in your rendering software of choice.
