More model informationThe specimen is a hematite concretion. These kinds of concretions are sometimes colloquially referred to as “Moqui Marbles”. Originally thought to be created by microbes, more recent research suggest that they form due to the precipitation of iron from groundwater.

It was collected from Jurassic aged Navajo Sandstone from the Big Spencer Flats of Garfield County, Utah.
