It will be a brazier in an folk house in Izumi no Mori, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. In the Edo period, it seems that charcoal was put in this and a fire was made to boil water. Surprisingly, it seems that some Japanese homes are still using this. I saw this when I was a kid, but I don’t see it very often these days. How to use the brazier
