Holmpatrick 16th-Century Graveslab DU005-031003-3D ModelNoAI
Standing against the external face of the south wall of the bell-tower of the C. of I. church ruins, built on the site of the Augustinian Priory (DU005-031----) in Holmpatrick graveyard (DU005-031002-), there is a 16th-century graveslab (L. 1.85m x top Wth 0.53m; base Wth 0.48m) or cross-slab grave cover of Peter Manne, prior of the Augustinian Priory of Holmpatrick. The tapering slab has a Latin-Cross with expanded terminals carved in relief with a Latin inscription running down the shaft of the cross. The inscription was recorded in 1907 by Lord Walter FitzGerald who wrote;’By far the most ancient slab in this churchyard is one dated 1520, erected to the memory of a Prior of the House of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Holmpatrick. Rev. William Carrigan read the inscription; ‘Hic Jacet Petrus Mainn olim prior huius domus, cuius animae propicieture deus, qui obiit anno christi MVCXX - Here lies Peter Mainn (or Manne), formerly Prior of this House, on whose soul God have mercy. He died in the year of Christ 1520’.
