More model informationH. heidlebergensis lived ~300,000-600,000 ya. Like H. erectus, they used Acheulean tool technology.
The first fossil associated with H. heidelbergensis was a jaw bone found in Mauer, in Heidleberg, Germany. Further fossils have been found in Africa and Europe. H. heidelbergensis has been one of the more difficult hominins to differentiate from others, as several have been first identifiedd as H. erectus, neanderthalensis, or archaic H. sapiens. Some scholars have questioned if the classification “H. heidelbergensis” is a filler for inconclusive fossils.
