This species belonged to the same group as modern humans. Like Homo sapiens, it had a large brain and built shelters and hearths. It existed from about 700,000-200,000 years ago and was discovered in 1908. Modeled from public display in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC.
