A very iconic spire in Iceland and famous in it’s history. The poet Jónas Hallgrímsson was raised at the farm Hraun in Öxnárdalur.
The first accent of Hraundrangi was in 1956 and the next one wasn’t until 1977. The neigbouring ridge Kistan wasn’t climbed untill 1982 and only has one or two accents. Part of the reason is that climbing up Kistan is harder and part is that Hraundrangi just looks so much more enticing.
The hike up from Hörgárdalur takes 2-3 hours and the elevation gain is a little over 700m to where you start climbing and the spire it self is about 70m.
The drone was flown by Garpur, 7. jun 2020. We mapped Hraundrangi while sitting on the top with amazing views. You can at least see my green rope in a pile at the top and maybe a dark blue shadow from my jacket.
