Civilians call it a Hummer. The U.S. military calls it an HMMWV. Service members call it a Humvee, and Motor-T calls it names we can’t repeat in polite company. Whatever you call it, this hardcore truck is one of the most legendary military vehicles of all time.
Humvees, short for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), are iconic military-grade vehicles originally designed for the U.S. Armed Forces. First introduced in the 1980s, these vehicles are known for their ruggedness, versatility, and durability in extreme conditions. Built by AM General, Humvees were designed to replace older military jeeps and offer enhanced off-road mobility, high payload capacity, and adaptability across various terrains—ranging from deserts to snow-covered regions.
One of the coolest things about Humvees is their ability to be outfitted for a variety of missions. They can serve as troop carriers, ambulances, communication vehicles, and even light weapons platforms.
