This marble “tondo” or roundel portrait from the Eskenazi Museum of Art has been identified as a man from the years 211-217 CE. The subject’s beard conforms to the prevailing style of the Severan Dynasty, though it is somewhat more closely cropped.
The disparity between the head and body is not immediately apparent, but becomes obvious by viewing from above. The compatibility of the head and tondo should be further investigated.
