The Ishtar Gate, located in modern day Iraq, was once a key monument in the ancient city of Babylon. It was the 8th gate of the city and measured up to 11.5m tall. The gate was constructed by King Nebuchadnezzar II in 575 BCE as a plan to “beautify his empire. The gate was so well know that it made the initial list of the 7 Wonder of the Ancient World. To this day, there are plenty of writers who feel it should be added to the list once more. The gate itself was also dedicated to the goddess Ishtar and the animals on the gate represented other Deities. The gate was excavated between 1902 and 1914, however, it could not be reconstructed to its full size.
