More model informationThe 178 ft three masted schooner James Bentley was built in 1867 in Fairport, Ohio. In November 1878 while enroute from Chicago to Buffalo, NY with a load of rye, the Bentley briefly ran aground on reef near the Straits. Shortly after the grounding the ship began to leak faster than the pumps could handle. The crew signaled the bark Erastus Corning who rescued the crew. The Bentley sank off 40 Mile Point. Today it is an amazing example of a schooner of the 1860’s era and has a number of unique design features. The model was created from 1,733 30-megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman in the 2024 season.
