More model informationJoseph Ressel monument in the park of the same name in Vienna’s 4th district. The monument shows the bronze statue of Ressel on a stepped pedestal on an ashlar pedestal with a bronze inscription plaque. “Josepho Ressel Patria Austriaco qui omnium prior rotam cochlidem pyroscaphis propellendis adplicuit anno M DCCC XXVII. Monimentum posit M DCCC LXII.” The monument was created in 1863 by Anton Dominik Fernkorn. The unveiling took place on January 18, 1863.
Joseph Ressel (1793-1857) was one of the inventors of the ship’s propeller alongside John Ericsson and Francis Pettit Smith; Robert Fulton and David Bushnell, and brought it to technical maturity.
