Description: Sacred Buddhist text. 1 of 108 volumes. Wrapped in 5 cloths. This Mongolian Kanjur is a luxury pothi-style book with five cloth wrappings from the Harvard-Yenching Library. Pothi-format books consist of a stack of loose leaves that are held between wooden boards and wrapped in a cloth. Pothi-format books are a traditional book structure employed in the Tibetan and Mongolian book arts. The multiple wrappings and abundance of tags and tassels attached to the outermost wrapping are incredibly rare and denote the significance of this book to its creators and previous caretakers.
