Kankoboko - Gion Matsuri Float (20% Complete)

This is an early assembly draft using approx. 20% of our photogrammetry data of Kyoto, Japan’s “Kankoboko.” The Kankoboko is a prominent “hoko” (similar to a festival float) for Japan’s largest cultural festival, Gion Matsuri.

Through cooperation with the preservation crew that cares for the hoko year-round, we were given access to capture extensive photogrammetry data as well as laser scans using the FARO Focus3D. We will be updating this model as we assemble the remaining data.

This capture represents just one example of our extensive goal of using 3D modeling and VR for cultural preservation and exposure in Kyoto, and Japan as a whole.

観光鉾 こちらのモデルは撮影したデータの凡そ２０％を使い、出来上がりました。函谷鉾は祇園祭の主役の一つの鉾です。 年中鉾の管理を担当する函谷鉾保存会の協力を得て、特別に撮影許可を頂きました。フォトグラメトリー撮影とFARO Focus3Dを使い、レーザースキャンも行いました。 このキャプチャーは、３DモデルとVRを利用し京都の文化保存をする、一つの事例です。
