Kenmare Boulder Burial (KE093-032002-)3D Model
Prehistoric boulder-burial standing in the centre of a stone circle (KE093-032001-) overlooking the Finnihy River, on the outskirts of Kenmare, Co. Kerry. A rounded boulder rests above three support-stones, which form a small chamber-like arrangement open on the eastern side. The boulder rests directly on the support-stones at north and south, and on a small pad-stone above the support-stone on the western side. There is at least one small cupmark and two other holes visible on the upper surface of this boulder. There are numerous striations or lines visible running across the surface of the capstone. This type of monument consists of a large boulder or capstone of megalithic proportions, resting on a number of supporting stones, usually three or four in number, which, in most cases, do not form a recognisable chamber structure. Excavations suggest a Bronze Age date for this burial monument (c. 2400-500 BC). For more information, visit: https://maps.archaeology.ie/HistoricEnvironment/?SMRS=KE093-032002-
