Das Objekt datiert in die Hallstattzeit (1. Jtsd v.Chr.) und stammt aus Hallstatt. Es handelt sich um in Salzstein eingeschlossene Kienspäne, von denen einige angebrannt sind. Kienspäne sind harzhaltige Holzstreifen, die man im frühen Bergbau als Lichtquelle nutzte. Die frühsten Belege dieser Geleuchte stammen aus dem Salzbergbau in Hallstatt.
This object dates back to the Hallstatt culture (1st mill. BC) and derives from Hallstatt. It consists of fatwood enclosed in salt stone, some have already been burnt. Fatwood are flat pieces of wood with a high resin content. They were used as a source of light in early mining. The earliest evidence of this miner’s lamp comes from the salt mines in Hallstatt.
