Saint Sincheall founded Killeigh monastery in the sixth century. A Franciscan Abbey formerly the site of an Augustinian Priory (OF025-017003-) was incorporated into a modern guest house (OF025-030----) and a C. of I. church still in use, all of which stands on the site of the monastery. At the eastern end of the Franciscan Friary on the northern side are the remains of a stone-vaulted chapter house which was reused as a turf shed by the Tarleton family of Killeigh Abbey House in the 19th century. Inside the chapter house of the Franciscan Friary can be seen a ringed cross-slab (OF025-017001-) dating from the 8th or 9th-century as well as many architectural fragments from the friary dating from the 12th-17th century.
