More model informationThis is a high-resolution Digital Outcrop Model of the Kilmarie and Aberlady drill holes in the Glen Torridon clay-bearing unit of Gale crater, Mars. This model is made using Navcam and Mastcam photos taken between sols 2359 and 2416 by the rover Curiosity. These images are available on the PDS archive.
On these laminated sandstone slabs, the rover Curiosity drilled two little holes to assess the mineralogy of the rock and determine its clay content. On this 3D model, we can saw that the slabs crop out of a much finer bedrock. Many little ripples are also visible on the regoltih around the site.
Model by Gwénaël Caravaca of LPG Nantes (UMR 6112 CNRS).
