More model informationThere can be no doubt about the identity of the apostle on this bench end. The man with the pilgrim’s staff and a scallop fastened to his hat cannot be anyone but he apostle St. James the Great. Both objects are paraphernalia associated with the pilgrims visiting his grave. The top panel on this bench end bears an escutcheon with crossed keys. One possibility is that these are the arms of Christ’s Church in Bergen.
