the Royal Canadian Dragoons and the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles, moved from Belfast towards the Komati River. Their aim was to give those Boer fellas a nudge out of the area.
A guy by the name of Major-General Horace Smith-Dorrien was leading this crew, and by the 6th of November, they got to the river and managed to push the Boers out from their spot. But, the Boers put up a tougher fight than they thought, and Smith-Dorrien reckoned more Boers were on the way, so he had his troops set up camp at Leliefontein for the night, planning to head back to Belfast the next day.
Now, those Boers, they had pulled back from Komati and got some more troops together, thinking the British-Canadians were going to chase after them. These Boers, including units like the Ermelo Commando and Carolina Commando, had originally planned to meet the Brits on a road south of the river. But when they realized that the Brits and us Canucks were not on their tails, but were packing up instead, they had to rethink their plans.
