The Landing Craft Mechanized (LCM), also known as a “Landing Craft Mechanical,” is a utility vessel specifically designed for transporting vehicles. These craft gained significant fame during World War II, serving as a backbone for Allied amphibious assaults across Europe by delivering troops and tanks to shore. Produced by various manufacturers in both the UK and US, a total of 8,631 units—affectionately dubbed “Mike Boats” or “M-Boats”—were constructed between 1942 and 1945.
