More model informationThis large pit feature was nearly a meter deep from the surface. The feature was full of charcoal and intensly burned Fire Cracked Rock (FCR). The fire in this feature was so intense that some of the FCR crumbled when removed, and a red ring of burned earth several inches thick surrounded the pit. It is clear from this model that to create the pit someone climbed into the pit to dig out the sides. This feature dated to the Late Woodland period and was located next to the Anderson Earthwork in Ross County, Ohio.
