Double-headed serpent (Turquoise mosaic on wood. Mixtec-Aztec, AD 1400-1521, British Museum)
The double-headed serpent is one of the treasures of the British Museum [@britishmuseum]. It is made of cedro wood, covered with turquoise mosaics and decorated with oyster and conch shell.
About this model
Here, I show a 3D model of the left head (WIP, 01/2022). I have partially reconstructed the model by photogrammetry (using Meshroom and Meshlab). As one can guess, there are plenty of photos of the front side available on the Internet, but only few of the back side… For the back side, I have therefore worked a lot with photoshop (texturing). Finally, I have used a CAD software (SpaceClaim) to design all the teeth, as well as some of the mosaics.
On Sketchfab, I played a little with the lighting to avoid lighting the top of the head.
