The leopard is one of the five extant species in the genus Panthera. Today, eight subspecies are recognised in its wide range in Africa and Asia. Its body measures from 92 to 183 cm in total length, with a tail long from 66 to 102 cm. Males typically weigh 30 –70 kg, and females 20–43 kg. It lives in a variety of habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas. It is an opportunistic predator, hunting mostly ungulates and primates.
