Livyatan melvillei (Mandible)3D Model
3D scan of a model of a mandible of a Leviathan (Livyatan melvillei). The leviathan (Livyatan melvillei) is an extinct spermwhale mainly known from the Pisco Formation of Peru during the Tortonian stage of the Miocene epoch, about 9.9–8.9 million years ago. The estimated total length ranges from 13.5 to 17.5 meters, similar to that of the modern sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus), making it one of the largest predators ever known. The teeth of the leviathan (up to 36.2 centimeters long) are thought to be among the largest of any known animal, excluding tusks.
