More model informationPillar topped with a lion holding the coat of arms of the Duke of Lerma. Placed in 1601 in the atrium of the facade of the church of San Pablo (Valladolid).
The original function of these pillars was to serve as support for large chain links that delimited the entrance to some buildings. The presence of these chains signified that the building enjoyed exemption from jurisdiction, that is, that inside the marked perimeter one could not be judged by ordinary legislation.
