Mural memorial commemorating members of the Lovejoy family, located on the south wall of the chancel of the Church of St Peter the Apostle, Broadstairs. A large and elaborate early 18th-century wall memorial of sculpted marble, it exemplifies the high Baroque taste for architectural framing, rich ornament, and allegorical sculpture. The composition is conceived as a triumphal aedicule: a central oval inscription panel bordered with gilded laurel leaves, set within an architectural surround of pilasters, consoles, and swags. Above, a broken segmental pediment encloses a central cartouche of arms with acanthus mantling, flanked by two full-length angels in dynamic poses—one mourning, one in prayer—symbols of piety and resurrection. The cornice is supported by paired Corinthian pilasters enriched with carved floral garlands and scrolling volutes, resting on a base with draped festoons and tasselled drops. The entire structure is richly polychromed, contrasting white, gold, and grey marbles.
