Prehistoric carved rock found in the Low Plain area on Baildon Moor, West Yorkshire.
Situated on a main tracks over Baildon Moor, this rock is prone to damage. Referenced ‘IAG 173’ in Boughey & Vickerman’s 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’, it’s described as:
‘Small, low rock. Nine cups and possible ring’
CSI: Rombalds Moor Project recorded the stone ‘Low Plain 23’ on ERA in 2012, noting damage & describing:
‘….On the W side are five cups of varying sizes of which three show partial rings/arcs which might be weathered remains of more complete grooves. On E side are four cups of varying sizes of which two show partial rings/arcs.’
Morphology has influenced motif placement.
