Colt assault rifle chambered in 5.56 mm. It is based on the Armalite AR-15. In the late 60s, due to the US economy (yes, they initially saved on this), the rifle had problems during the Vietnam War. Then the US thought about it and started to solve the problems. In the 70s, FN Herstal developed a new, improved 5.56mm cartridge (SS109), and the rifle was modified to become the M16A2.
