More model informationHalos 22 and 46 are obtained when crystals, eg. plates can take every position in space.
When plates are slightly elongated, they fall rotatIng like strips of paper. One of the diagonals remains horisontal. Most of such crystals cannot take the position needed for the angle of the smallest deflection of light. Circular halos disintegrate into several arcs.
The arcs crossing sundogs are called upper, lower and middle ones. The middle arc goes through a sundog vertically, while the other two are oblique.
At the end you can see some horisontal planes. They help you to understand how ice plates are directed at Lowitz position.
