LUSTY MORE ISLAND - SM7-FER-153-0 Idol -3D ModelNoAI
Often erroneously associated with Sheela-na-Gigs the Lustymore Island Idol was removed a graveyard at Lustymore to the nearby island of Boa, and placed beside the Boa Island Figure. The two carving appear to have some similarities in style and date, but little is known about their use. The lustymore idol is similar to another carving believed to represent Lugh of the Silver Arm located in St. Patricks Cathedral Armagh, but it should be said these associations are the work of antiquarians and modern scholars do not have a clear idea of the function of such carvings. It appears that were was a skilled group of craftspeople in the north of Ireland who shared a similar belief system associated with these stone carvings which possibly date from the Iron Age or the early days of the Christian period in Ireland.
