Magma interaction at Bingie Bingie Point 23D Model
Two major phases within the Tuross Head Tonalite are tonalite and various more mafic diorites. A number of features reminiscent of structures in sedimentary deposits can be witnessed here including load casts, rip-up clasts and flame structures. In this model, tonalitic magma has been injected over a diottic layer. The main body of diorite is out of view and is underneath the initial viewpoint (I was standing on it). What can be seen in the overlying tonalite is a large population of diorite magmatic enclaves that decrease in abundance away from the diorite contact. These enclaves are akin to rip-up clasts in sedimentary sequences, with the flow of tonalite magma plucking off ‘clasts’ of diorite from the magma body beneath.
Gaps in the model correspond to a pool of water. Outcrop is approximately 4×3 metres
