More model informationMagnetite is a heavy iron-rich mineral that is metallic gray to black in color. As suggested by its name, magnetite is strongly magnetic. The most common magnetite artifacts at Poverty Point are plummets, which are teardrop-shaped objects, many of which were perforated or grooved for suspension. They may have served as bolas, net weights, and/or loom weights. Rarely, there are magnetite celts and geometric forms.
