In 2019, I participated in a competition to challenge myself in designing a bottle using a modern plastic material called rPET.
rPET has a higher recycling rate than PET and does not degrade into fibers, making it suitable for recycling into another transparent plastic product. In the design of a water bottle, differentiation from competitors is crucial, and factors such as distribution, physical protection, and storage are other considerations that can be seen on the prioritization diagram for mineral water packaging design (spider diagram).
I designed this plastic bottle for this competition, but I wonder how we can avoid producing it! Aquatic animals are affected by microplastics, and it can be harmful to our environment. We need to put an end to the design of these products or seek to find eco-friendly materials instead of plastic, even rPET! Especially considering that the recycling process also has a significant carbon footprint…
