Head of Male Votary Statuette from the Cypro-Classical period Mid. 5th c.BC.

Description

This sculpture depicts the head of a young male figure adorned with a wreath of laurel leaves turning upwards. The figure has a faint smiling expression, characterized by a wide mouth, thin lips, and a strong chin.

Most likely, this head belonged to a votive statuette, as numerous similar heads have been discovered in Cypriot sanctuaries from the same period.

The backside is flat and unworked, while the overall thickness is restricted, the stylistic representation of the face and hairstyle, common features of the Cypro-Classical period, especially around the middle of the 5th century BC, indicates the probable chronology of the statue.
