Maltheps or Mandaps are the traditional community place of the Bishnupriya Manipuri people. Although it’s existence is deeply connected to their Vaishnavaite religious beliefs and practices, it is but also, the meeting ground of the community for all other social and customary ceremonies, starting from marriages and shraddh’s to seasonal celebrations and village meetings. This goes to define this community as a deeply rooted religious community.

The structure of the Malthep is believed to be inspired from the Rasa Mandapam of Vrindavan.
