Manx Cross 69. Crux Guriat Cross Slab. Maughold, Isle of Man.
A granite wheel cross (c.8th century) with insised carving and five bosses carved in relief, this cross is very unusual in design particularly for the Isle of Man. On the side of the slab next to the right arm of the cross is a short latin inscription ‘Crux guriat’ translating at the ‘Cross of Guriat’. First recorded in 1841 when it was moved from the middle of a field to the roadside at Port y Vullen, it stood there until 1894 when it was moved to Maughold church and this stone is now located in a purpose built structure for displaying carved stones (located in the graveyard).
