One of the tank designs produced by Sir William Tritton, the Whippet was a medium tank that entered the Great War during the last year of the conflict, meant to be a fast assault alternative to the heavy Mark IVs and Vs already used by British forces to storm German positions.

Whippets were instrumental in the “victory” at Amiens, where they moved around the main German line and destroyed their anti-tank artillery guns.

After the Great War, Whippets were used by British forces during the Irish Civil War, the White Russians and the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War, by the German Freikorps during the German Revolution, and by the Japanese in Manchuria
