More model informationMatfen Standing Stone or Stob Stone (NZ 0333 7045) is a much weathered sandstone monolith, about 7 ft (2.2m) high, with cup marks near its base on three of its four sides.
The stone is at the roadside oposite a house named after it. It may have been moved from its original position. On three sides of its base, close to the ground, are many cup marks. It is not known whether they were put there before or after the stone was erected. The stone is naturally fluted, which makes it impressive. The cup marks are best seen in oblique sunlight. 29 cups and three fainter ones have been recorded on the east side, five cups in an arc around a fainter cup on the north side, and 23 of various sizes on the west side.
