More model informationThe floors of medieval abbeys were often covered with tiles made from fired clay. Most were plain or had a simple single colour glaze. Some were decorated with more complex designs.
This floor tile is decorated with designs of a castle, the arms of Eleanor of Castille, the wife of Edward I of England, who died in 1290.
It was one of several decorated floor tiles from Netley Abbey collected by the Rev. Edmund Kell in the mid 1800s.
