This is the 3D scan of a medieval knight jousting scene on a small vintage wood box I found at an auction. The scan is of the front panel only.
There are no markings on the box itself, but the metal lock appears to be from a US company from the 1800s. Given the fasteners used, this time period makes sense (i.e. it has brass flathead screws) for the hinges. No idea who carved this box or where it came from, but the panel caught my eye, so I scanned it.
I’m not sure if the scene has historical relevance, but it does seem to indicate two rivals competing in a tournament of this type. I haven’t fully researched the scene. I have found only one other similar pieces, and it was actually located in the UK. If you have any ideas on meaning or origin theory, feel free to let me know!
