Meijerfelt was one part of Gustavsvärn fortress built to protect important shipping port Hanko. The fortress had one land base and three smaller island bases, of which Meijerfelt was the smallest. The fortress was started in 1793 by Sweden, changed ownership to Russians in 1808 without a fight, and was completed in mid 1800’s by Russia. The Meijerfelt bastion had 61 guns just before the Crimean war, and it saw action when the fortress was able to repel British attack to Hanko in May 1854. Later on that same summer the fortress was deemed too expensive and all island bases were destroyed.
The remaining gun carriages and two cannons are located in 7-9 m depth on the north side of Meijerfelt.
The Finnish Heritage Agency (FHA) id for this wreck is 2318.
