Memorial stone, Garvald and Bara Kirk, Scotland3D Model
Gravestone at Garvald and Bara Kirk, East Lothian, Scotland. Canmore id 56478: The inscription on this fine mural monument is no longer visible, and only the initials C B remain on a finial. A similar portrait-bust appears at Stenton churchyard, obviously the work of the same stonemason. Captured in a thoughtful pose, the portrait-bust fills the monument’s pediment. Obviously a man of means, the young gentleman wears an elegant coat with large cuffs and his flowing hair is neatly curled. The skull he holds is a metaphor for death. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art. 184 images using Canon 7D and 10-18mm EF-S zoom lens at 18mm.
