This 60 metre high cliff face at Merewether south is between Merewether ocean baths and Burwood Beach. It features a spectaculat section through the lower portion of the Newcastle Coal measures. The rock platform here is made of fluvial sandstones (lithic arenites) of the Bogey Hole Formation. Trough cross-beds can be seen in the platform. The Dudley Seam (coal) occurs in two splits here separated by a fluvial sandston - the lower split is almost at the base of the cliff. The Dudley seam is overlian by the Bar Breach Formation which starts out with carbonaceous shales (floodplain) which then alternate with fluvial channel sandstones. Nobbys Seam (coal) follows at ~25 metres up the cliff, immediately followed by Nobbys Tuff (volcanic ash). The volcanic ash is overlain by the Victoria Tunnel Seam (coal). The Merewether Conglomerate (an alluvial fan deposit) forms the top ~10 metres of the cliff.
Toward the left hand side of the model (south) there is a prominent fault that has offset the strata.
